Sailing the "Emerald" Sea

While the oceans that encircle us currently do not exhibit a green hue, they also do not appear as a vibrant blue. On this St. Patrick's Day, the weather at sea is hazy and stormy as we sail just off the western coast of Australia.
Here are a few things you might not know about celebrations on this day:
1. Shamrocks, with their three leaves, symbolize the Holy Trinity and can also represent hope, love, and faith. A fourth leaf is considered a symbol of good luck.
2. While corned beef and cabbage are often associated with St. Patrick's Day, they are not traditionally Irish. Early Irish immigrants in America favored beef over pork due to cost.
3. The first St. Patrick's Day parade took place in Boston in 1737, followed by New York in 1766. Dublin held its first parade in 1931.
Boston hosts one of the largest St. Patrick's Day parades due to its significant Irish population, drawing around a million attendees.
4. Landmarks worldwide illuminate with green lights on March 17th, including the Empire State Building, the London Eye, the Colosseum in Rome, and various structures in Dublin.
5. Chicago annually dyes its river green using 40 pounds of dye powder, a tradition that began in 1962.
And for some St. Patrick's Day humor:
Why do people wear shamrocks on St. Patrick's Day? Because real rocks would be too heavy.
When does Valentine's Day come after St. Patrick's Day? In the dictionary.
What do you call a leprechaun who is sent to jail? A lepre-con.
Whenever St. Patrick's day comes along I recall a few photos from years gone by. What a mischievous leprechaun!
Also another fond memory from Spring break together in March of 2021 at Sawyers Restaurant each morning.
So, Top of the Morning to You! Enjoy your St. Patrick's Day no matter where in the world you are!!
