After our thrilling safari and memorable visits to Mauritius and Reunion Island, we have a few days at sea to rest and recharge. Originally, our itinerary included sailing through the Red Sea and exploring the majestic Egyptian pyramids. However, due to the current unrest in the region, there was an exciting change of plans. Instead of heading north, we are now embarking on a captivating journey around Africa! Our three-day sea voyage will take us to the vibrant city of Port Elizabeth in South Africa, where new adventures await.
With only around 900 passengers on board, the ship feels a bit like a ghost town. We find ourselves missing some of the crew members who were with us from the beginning of our journey and recently disembarked in Dubai. However, it's nice to know that many of them will rejoin us before we say our goodbyes in Miami. As we learn that Pinedale, WY, is still dealing with snowfall, we feel content with the pleasant, fall-like weather in the Southern Hemisphere. Life on the ship has settled into a comfortable routine, and I've been using my spare time to diligently study for the accreditation test I'll be taking come October. I also started Michener's book, "The Covenant" which is a historical fiction novel that traces the history of South Africa from prehistoric times to the 1970s. The story is told through the experiences of several families from different racial and cultural backgrounds, including the Nxumalos, a black African family; the van Doorns, a white Afrikaner family; and the Saltwoods, an English family.
I'm not sure how much time we'll have for reading as we begin our visit to numerous ports in Africa and once our friends from Germany join the ship in Cape Town on Sunday.
I'm hoping you'll continue to travel along with us for Part 3 of THE WORLD is a BOOK and our journey to the African Continent.

I agree with your quote, but I do want you to know that even though I am unable to travel in person, I still get enormous joy traveling virtually. Your blog has added so much to my travel life. For e.g. have always wanted to go on a safari. But, your descriptive writing with photographs of Africa and its animal life has completely satisfied that desire.....amazing.
