A Slice of Britain on the Mediterranean

Gibraltar, United Kingdom

View Around the World! - Part 3 on Where2FromHere's travel map.

Gibraltar is a unique and fascinating British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. This small yet strategically important territory offers a perfect blend of British and Mediterranean influences, evident in its architecture, culture, and cuisine. The iconic Rock of Gibraltar, a towering limestone monolith, dominates the landscape and provides a natural habitat for the famous Barbary macaques, the only wild monkey population in Europe. On a previous visit we biked to the top of the Rock for breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and the African coastline. This time we opted to just take a brief stroll through the port city.

We enjoyed a great cup of coffee in the square, purchased a few unique miniture bottles to add to our collection and admired the beautiful foliage on this sunny, summer day.

With its warm climate, stunning natural beauty, and unique cultural heritage, Gibraltar offered an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful day while seeking a mix of history and relaxation.
