Sharks and Custard Tarts

Lisbon, Portugal

View Around the World! - Part 4 on Where2FromHere's travel map.

Today we went to the Oceanarium where we viewed the one of the largst indoor aquariums in Europe which holds more than one milllion gallons of seawater and cares for over 8,000 aquatic creatures from 500 different species. A massive 5-million-liter tank that represents the global ocean, housing various species including sharks, rays, and sunfish. Surrounding the central tank are 4 marine habitats representing the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Antarctic oceans. Here's just a spattering of the colorful and unusual marine life that we observed:

And yes, those awe-inspiring titans of the deep, the sharks, glide through the azure waters with silent grace. Their powerful forms and primal allure captivated us, offering a rare glimpse into the mysteries of the ocean's most misunderstood predators.

One unforgettable highlight of Lisbon that lingers in my memory is the tantalizing "Pastel de Nata" or "Pastéis de Belém". These quintessential Portuguese delicacies are a testament to culinary artistry - diminutive tarts with a crisp, flaky shell cradling a luscious custard filling, their tops kissed golden by the oven's heat and dusted with fragrant cinnamon. The contrast between the crunch of the pastry and the silky smoothness of the custard creates a symphony of textures that dances on the tongue. Does your mouth water at the mere thought? Take my advice: no visit to Lisbon is complete without indulging in a box of these heavenly treats.

They're not just pastries; they're edible memories of Portugal's rich culinary heritage. To be honest, I'd travel to Lisbon just to taste these delicious custard filled pastries - I absolutely LOVE them!!

The combination of the Oceanarium's marine wonders and the delectable Pastel de Nata exemplifies Lisbon's ability to offer both natural marvels and gastronomic delights, making it a unique destination for everyone!
