Stockholm, Sweden

View Around the World! - Part 4 on Where2FromHere's travel map.

We arrived in one of the world's most beautiful places - Stockholm, Sweden. Despite the early hour of 4:30 AM, [the time zone change and moving our clocks back meant we actually rose at 5:30 AM] we awoke just in time for the 4:40 AM sunrise. This early start allowed us hours to admire the spectacular scenery from our ship's port side as we slowly sailed towards Stockholm's port. We were treated to breathtaking views of countless islands, charming summer homes, small ferries, and Sweden's lush, wooded forests.

Having visited Stockholm before, we opted for the flexibility of the Hop-On, Hop-Off bus and boat to explore the city this time. Our previous trip had included a memorable visit to the Vasa Museum, home to an extraordinary 17th-century warship. The Vasa, a remarkably preserved vessel, has a fascinating history. It sank on its maiden voyage in 1628 and remained underwater for over three centuries until its salvage in 1961. Now, the museum proudly displays this ornate warship in its full glory. [See the photo below taken by Karolina Kristensson of the ship within the Vasa museum.]

The museum offers a unique glimpse into Sweden's naval past and the impressive engineering feats of the 17th century. The ship's intricate carvings and imposing size make it a captivating time capsule of Scandinavian maritime heritage.

However, on this visit, we explored the enchanting Old Town, marveling at its imposing royal palace and looming cathedrals. Our journey led us to Central Station, where we browsed shops and I indulged myself by adding another "You Are Here" Starbucks mug to my collection. Along the way, we passed Nobel Park, a tribute to dynamite inventor Alfred Nobel and the prestigious prize winners who bear his name. As we wandered through the streets and canals of this Scandinavian gem, Stockholm revealed itself as a city that seamlessly blends medieval charm with modern innovation.

Today's journey provided a mix of historical landmarks and cultural tributes, offering yet another glimpse of Stockholm's rich heritage and contemporary significance. We're excited to spend another day here, eager to discover what new experiences Stockholm has in store for us tomorrow!

I'll be excited to know your new Starbucks mug count once you have them all unpacked and displayed! What a great tradition I think I started for you?!
