Rather than taking another tour, today we opted to take a short shuttle ride from the ship into Marseille. At the drop off point we took a short walk along the seaside to the spot where we purchased tickets to ride the Le Petit Train. It's a small train that takes you through the narrow streets of Marseille, by the seaside all the way to the top of the hill where the Basilca of Notre-Dame is located.

We also walked past the Roman Catholic cathedral said to have been erected in the first century by St. Lazarus, the young man mentioned in the Gospels who had been raised from the dead by Jesus Christ himself. And we passed the arch which was built as a memorial to those who fought and died in WWI. And in the distance there was a castle on an island that looked just like the sand castle you make on the beach as a kid!

It was extremely hot once again so our visit was interesting but short enough that we could get back to the ship and enjoy the pools, slides and (at least for the adults) some refreshing long island Iced Teas! Oh, and just to give you an idea of how impressive our ship is - here's a photo of the Wonder of the Seas docked in Marseille, France (Notice it's size compared to the cargo ships and car ferries to the right) - plenty to see and do once we return onboard. Can't wait to get into the air conditioning!!
